The ectopic tracheal bronchus: management of a child by excision and segmental pulmonary resection.

چکیده
Smelt7 described several variations of the congenital anomaly which they termed tracheal lobe. Essentially, an otherwise normal right upper lobe bronchus originates above the tracheal carina or bifurcation and provides the customary three segmental divisions. There may, however, be a complete duplication of the right upper lobe bronchus by an ectopic tracheal bronchus. Usually the anterior and posterior bronchopulmonary segments are subserved by the normal upper lobe bronchus, the ectopic tracheal bronchial evagination serving the apical segment only.1 If drainage of the appropriate bronchopulmonary segment is impaired, or bronchiectasis, cystic change or emphysema develop because of stenosis of the origin of the ectopic bronchus, then the patient may develop recurrent episodes of pneumonia or dyspnea. The purpose of this publication is to present a child in whom recurrent episodes of right upper lobe pneumonia led to investigation and diagnosis of an ectopic tracheal bronchus serving the right apical segment, with cure of the condition by thoracotomy and resection of the ectopic bronchus and its associated apical pulmonary segment.

Right Lower Sleeve Bilobectomy for Lung Cancer with Posteparterial Tracheal Bronchus
A 42-year-old man was diagnosed with cancer of the right lower lung lobe with a posteparterial type of tracheal bronchus, in which the posterior segmental bronchus of the right upper lobe arose from the distal bronchus intermedius. A mass involved the distal bronchus intermedius, requiring a right lower bilobectomy with an additional posterior segmental resection of the right upper lung lobe. T...
متن کاملManagement of Laryngotracheal and Tracheobronchial Injuries
Laryngotracheal and tracheobronchial injuries are uncommon, and their successful diagnosis and management often require a high level of expertise. This paper aimed at retrospective analysis of a thoracic surgeon's experience in the diagnosis and management of traumatic injuries to the larynx, trachea and major bronchi. Forty one patients with major airway trauma were managed from March 1994 to ...
متن کاملTracheal bronchus: a cause of prolonged atelectasis in intubated children.
Tracheal bronchus is a common anomaly that occurs in approximately 2% of people. Two children with multiple medical problems which led to endotracheal intubation are described. The hospital course for each child was complicated by persistent right upper lobe atelectasis. The presence of a tracheal bronchus was not recognized in either case initially; identification of this anatomic variant allo...
متن کاملA New Brace for Maintaining the Neck in a Suitable Position Following Tracheal Reconstruction
Segmental resection and end-to-end anastomosis is the treatment of choice for patients suffering from tracheal stenosis for whom conservative management is not planned. A complication of this procedure is tension-induced anastomotic failure. To prevent this complication, maintaining the neck in full flexion by means of a suture between the chin and upper chest is a traditional approach. We have...
متن کاملPartial lung resection of supernumerary tracheal bronchus combined with pulmonary artery sling in an adult: report of a case.
An adult case of pulmonary resection for repeated infections in a supernumerary tracheal bronchus combined with a pulmonary artery sling is reported. A 33-year-old woman with a pulmonary artery sling was referred for recurrent lung infections. Chest computed tomography showed the left pulmonary artery arising from the right pulmonary artery and coursing posterior to the trachea. The lung parenc...
